Things are moving...

  • We got our fingerprint clearance letter yesterday.
  • We got our letter from MAT today.
  • We heard from our lawyer three times in a week!
  • He spoke to S. at Mercy's home about things.
  • He said he will be writing up our affidavit and should be finished by Tuesday. We may be able to mail our paperwork in by next week!!!!
  • I am feeling great and made up with my friend.
  • We went shopping today and I bought some cute clothes at the local resale shop for Mercy. Mercy is wearing a size 5/6 and shoe size 12-13. (I am writing this so I can remember!)
  • I also got some cute matching sheets for Mercy and Kylie's bunk beds.

Thank you for your prayers and please keep it up! God is moving!

Just wanted to put it out there...
We would love to bring a laptop to Uganda when it's our time to travel. It'd be great to email home, blog, maybe even do video Skype calls. We have a much older, cheap laptop that is not really set up well to do internet stuff. If anyone has a laptop they could let us borrow while on our trip, please let me know. It doesn't have to be fancy or new, just capable!

Things to do...

  • Wait for our i600a approval
  • Get a letter from MAT about how we heard about Mercy (almost done)
  • Wait for a final draft of our affidavit (lawyer still needs to get a few more details)
  • Get my college transcript in the mail soon. DONE
  • Get a letter from a doctor saying Mercy needs specialized care. (emailed doctor and he is going to work on that for us)

Then when we get our final affidavit and other paperwork, we will take in the copies and get them notarized. Make more copies, and mail it all to Uganda. Then we wait for a court date...try to arrange for last minute travel plans, and go!

It is difficult to get excited about all this, since the horrible earthquake in Haiti. I have been working hard with MAT, even was interviewed by MSNBC. I have had MANY inquiries about becoming a host parent in the last two days. I don't know if our sons' birth families have survived. My son Sammy's original paperwork is all in a destroyed government building. We are waiting for answers. Trying to help as best we can from here. And praying.

Yellow Fever

Jeremiah and I went to the doctor today to discuss travel medicine. We got our yellow fever shots and a prescription for anti-diar. medication. Once we have more details on our travel dates we will call him and get a prescription for malaria meds.

To homeschool or not?

We sent our kids to school this year. A very tough decision but so far a good one. They are all enjoying school and I enjoy the extra time to be with the little boys.

I am wondering what I should do once Mercy is home. She will most likely need some therapy and extra attention or special services. Mercy won't be 5 until March so she could go to Kindergarten in the fall, or we could hold her back a year or we could teach her at home. I guess we will have to wait and see what her needs are and what she would enjoy. I really feel this sense of protecting her, so my heart is leaning towards homeschooling for at least the first few years.
