Right now I can think of nine big household issues that keep me awake at night. Really it shouldn't, people can live without these things and do fine. I am reminded of this book I checked out from the library once. Talk about eye opening!
But boy would my life be easier if we had a working dryer and dishwasher.
I keep praying for God to provide for us and bless us with the means to replace or repair some of these nagging things. But I am not sure if He will. Honestly, I wonder if I really have enough faith that He will. I somehow feel like these are things I should be able to control or help myself. I also wonder if maybe He is trying to teach us something by going without. However, Matthew 6:25-27 says:
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?But these things we think are needs are really not in the big picture of life.
I am not sure where I am going with this and need to stop rambling and get some things done before bed. Thoughts are welcome!

I can so relate. We have 2 dead cars right now, parked indefinitely ... until we have money to fix them. But, really, I am not worrying about it.
Years ago, we had 8 young children ... and no dishwasher for a year or more. I didn't even really pray about it, because I thought we should just do without. But, God totally surprised us and took care of this "need" (which is really just a "want"). On Christmas Eve, we were sitting at the dinner table when a Sears delivery truck pulled up. Yep. A dishwasher was delivered, and all the delivery man would say was that it was a present from "Santa". We saw it as a very sweet gift from the Lord.
It's always a balancing act. Sometimes, He wants us to learn to live without. Sometimes He wants us to learn to ask for things. Sometimes He wants to surprise us with unexpected blessings.
God does not promise us ... cars, dishwashers, appliances, etc... He does promise to take care of our NEEDS (which I see as food and clothing).
Maybe right now the Lord is wanting to teach you not to worry. Seriously. These things should not be keeping you awake at night.
Jim was recently unemployed for 3 months, and is now just working a short temporary job, but I do NOT stay up worrying about it. And ... you know what ... God has provided for ALL of our financial needs. We have been able to pay every single bill during this time of unemployment. We may have a couple of dead cars, but our mortgage is paid, our utilities are paid, and we have food on the table. That's all we really need.
Hope this has helped. I think I'm rambling now ...
Blessings,
Laurel :)
Thank you for sharing this - we are dealing with a lot of financial stress and it has that added weight knowing that we are leaving for Africa in like 3 wks! I knew to expect some spiritual warfare as this time grew closer, but it doesn't make it any easier. I will cherish this verse. =)
